You’d think cheaters would be smart by now.
But no… they keep leaving clues like breadcrumb trails for private investigators to follow.
And let me tell you – the real tea?
It’s often spilled not in texts, but in the receipts.
So, let’s talk about how the little things – from crumpled dry-cleaning stubs to forgotten hotel or restaurant mints – can crack a case wide open.
1. Laundry Receipts Never Lie
The number of affairs that start to unravel because of laundry is just poetic.
Think:
- Dry cleaning tags from unfamiliar places
- Women’s clothing when the client’s wife doesn’t wear that size
- Lipstick-stained collars (yes, it still happens and no, it’s not subtle)
Even wash cycles can spill secrets.
2. Car Clues Are a Goldmine
We’re talking:
- Hair in the seat that don’t match the spouse
- Fast food wrappers from restaurants no one remembers going to
- Uber receipts to odd locations
- A second phone charger suddenly in the console
- Hair ties/clips/makeup that have fallen out of a purse
The car is like a rolling diary for the careless cheater.
3. Phones, Wearables & Techy Trail Mix
Even if texts are wiped, we’ve seen:
- Fitbit routes that don’t match the “I was at the gym” story
- Apple Pay used at 5-star restaurants on “guy’s night”
- Sneaky dating app icons tucked in hidden folders
- Bluetooth connections to unknown devices (hi, “Jessica’s iPhone”)
Tech. Doesn’t. Lie.
4. Bathroom Bombshells
You’d be surprised how many people forget they share a bathroom with their partner.
Some clues we’ve spotted:
- Perfume that “lingers” for days
- Makeup wipes in the trash
- A brand-new toothbrush that doesn’t belong to anyone in the house
- Fake lashes, ya’ll.
If it’s left behind, we’re finding it.
5. Receipts, Points & Perks
Loyalty points? More like betrayal points. We look at:
- Hotel bookings under fake names
- Credit card charges at spas, hotels, or boutiques
- Airline tickets with mysterious companion bookings
- Gift receipts for high-end jewelry… not given to the spouse
Money talks, and we’re fluent.
6. The Story Slips
A big part of our job? Listening.
And when the story changes even slightly– we clock it.
- “I was at Dave’s” becomes “I was with Mike”
- “I worked late” turns into “There was an emergency meeting”
- “It was just a work thing” = code for I got caught
- “I was at my sister’s house all night” becomes “I think I was at her place until around 10, then maybe went home” the next day? Ding ding ding.
- They always park on the street – except the night in question they mysteriously decided to park in the garage?
- “We don’t really talk anymore” turns into “Well okay, we met for coffee once or twice last week but it was nothing serious”
- The shirt that was ‘just dirty’ in the car is suddenly back in the closet, freshly washed and folded the next day?
- Suddenly they don’t remember what they were doing on a night they were super sure about yesterday?
It only takes one inconsistency to unravel the whole web.
Real Talk from the Field:
We’ve seen cheaters busted by:
- Grocery store flowers receipt not matching the ones given at home
- A rogue hair extension under the bed
- A partner who never wore cologne… suddenly doused in it
- A restaurant server recognizing a PI from the last case with the same pattern
People cheat the same way they lie – sloppily.
